We have wow! so many Bromptons in stock. It's time for you to come on down and test ride one. You won't regret it. We fell in love with the sweet little Brompton a couple of years ago and are proud to say that many of you have also fallen in love with them. I shouldn't be surprised that we've sold so many Bromptons here at Huckleberry Bicycles. In the immortal words of Billy Ocean, these bikes are "simply awesome." As the cost of living goes up here in the Bay Area, space is becoming ever more valuable. Being able to stash away your bike in a closet, under your desk, in your Winnebago, on your boat, or on your other bike is priceless.
Seriously, what is not to love about a Brompton? All of the bicycle buzzwords are met in Brompton territory: customizable, organic, handmade, artisinal, British. There are not a lot of bike out there that you can have made to your specific requirements -- from paint colors to the number of gears and the type of tires, Brompton lets you do it all. We stock a selection of Bromptons that we think represent the best of what they have to offer. So if you want want quickly, we have a lot to choose from. If you don't mind waiting 4-6 weeks for a Brompton that perfectly matches your best cycling outfit, we can help you with that too.
We currently have several 6-speed and 3-speed H-type, M-type, and S-type Bromptons for you to peruse. We also stock a lot of super sweet Brompton bags and accessories. Don't miss your chance. No more love on the run!
Call us at 415-484-6575 or email us at info@huckleberrybicycles.com to inquire about your Brompton.

Using a belt instead of a chain to drive your bike has some advantages.
It's Clean. The belt runs clean and dry. No oil, so you don't have to worry about trashing your trouser legs, or ruining someone's panty hose on BART.
It's Quiet. The belt is quiet as a lamb. No squeaks, no creaks. You won't even hear yourself coming.
It's low-maintenance. With no chain to replace, no derailleurs to adjust, it's really great for an everyday commuter bike.
It's gonna last. The same things that make belt-drive low-maintenance also make it super-durable. So your money will go as far as you're willing to pedal.
[caption id="attachment_4812" align="alignleft" width="640"]
This shows one way to put a split in the frame so the belt can go on. [/caption]
We're focusing on Spot Brand's great lineup of commuter bikes. There are options for steel and aluminum frames, and different gearing options so you can find the right belt-drive commuter bike to fit your needs.
The Dualie.
The Dualie has a steel frame and fork, and a 2-speed kickback hub. You just "kick-back" while coasting to change gears. It's got the simplicity and clean lines of a single speed, but you get 2 gears. That's two for the price of one. Nice! The Spot Dualie is just $1300.
[caption id="attachment_4808" align="alignleft" width="600"]
The Spot Dualie [/caption]
The Wazee.
The Wazee is Spot's flagship steel commuter bike. It's got hydraulic disc brakes, and Shimano's 11-speed Alfine shifting. Sweetness. Oh and yeah, the Wazee's got a sweet Oakland A's paint job. Go A's!...maybe next year. The Spot Wazee goes for $2350.
[caption id="attachment_4807" align="alignleft" width="600"]
The Spot Wazee. Very versatile and you just gotta love that A's paint-job.[/caption]
The Acme.
The Acme is Spot's aluminum complement to the Wazee. Same awesome hydraulic brakes and 11-speed Alfine shifting, but on an aluminum frame with a carbon fork. Super sweet! The Spot Acme is light, fast, and it goes for $2300.
It's tops.
[caption id="attachment_4805" align="alignleft" width="600"]
The Spot Acme. She's a beaut.[/caption]
The Ajax.
This model sports a lightweight aluminum frame with a carbon fork. Wired Magazine gave this bike a Gear of the Year award. The Spot Ajax has disc brakes and an 8-speed Shimano Alfine hub. Basically it's an Acme with less expensive shit on it. At $1800, you'd be losing money if you didn't buy one of these.. And the Ajax is all-black so it goes with everything in your wardrobe.
[caption id="attachment_4806" align="alignleft" width="600"]
The Spot Ajax. Stealth.[/caption]
We have these four Spot Brand models in stock, and we can order you anything you want.
So come on down to Huckleberry town for a test ride. Our smoothness knows no bounds.

The profile of a gentleman.
The swoopy-doop handlebar is the way to go for riding 'round town. Seriously.
Mandatory mustachery.
Tire clearance and a chainguard.
We stock the Devil...
...and the She-Devil...
Both sell for $1200 and both come with some mustache-y logos, but if you aren't really feelin' it, you can put your own logos on the bike. That's kind of the best part.

In the last edition of our Shop Music feature, we sang the praises of the newest Milk Music release Cruise Your Illusion. So it was with great excitement that we learned of Milk Music returning to San Francisco to play an intimate headlining set at a house show in SOMA. It was a great time, nostalgic and uplifting. I grew up listening to hardcore and metal, playing and attending shows in friends' basements and VFW halls.  San Francisco, being the dense city it is, is not the most conducive locale for house shows. Luckily, myriad venues exist for live music, but there is something inspiring from listening to a band un-mic'd save the vocals in someone's disheveled basement. Sure, the PA may not work right, kids may knock over the band's gear, and the arbitrary amp placement may result in a wall of indecipherable noise, but the energy is what makes it special.
I'd like to think that the positive ju-ju from reviewing Milk Music brought them back to SF. With that in mind our next review will cover the incomparable Wilderness from Baltimore, Md. Since being made aware of Wilderness during college in 2006 (thanks Coleman!) I have been desperately trying to see the live ever since. I have had no such luck, Wilderness is never a band to do things by the book (are they even a band anymore?).
Wilderness is a unique band. Maniacal shouts, minimalist rhythm, riff-less twangy guitar lines prod along in absolute restraint. The band is like a glacier. Not in their aesthetic sound, but in their approach. Wilderness songs are always going somewhere, but the band doesn't mind taking their time. A band like this wouldn't go over too well with most listeners, I thought. People want hooks, something to hang their proverbial hat on and Wilderness does not play that game.
Wilderness has put out three records. Many cite their 2005 debut as their best offering, and I don't disagree that it is a masterpiece record. The second album, Vessel States, was released the following year and showed the band honing their sound. Critics complained that the second album did not build enough off of the first. I don't disagree. What I find flawed is the idea that addition is the avenue for a band to show progress. Wilderness refined their stark sound for the second record by amplifying the minimalism. Every note is essential.
The two songs that end the album, Gravity Bent Light and the closer Monumental, are perfect examples of Wilderness' minimalist approach to post-punk. Gravity Bent Light commences with leftover synthesizer fragments from the interlude that preceded it. A guitar enters the foray, slightly distorted playing a riff that will be repeated for the next four minutes. Bass and drums work together, toms and the snare matching the bass step for step, except for a hi-hat hit and occasional fill. Jason Johnson is in top form. In his idiosyncratic way, he spends the first minute plus of the song repeating the word "hallelujah" just four times. It is not until over four minutes into the song do we get a break from the constant tempo. Signaled by the syncopated hi-hat, the band kicks into high gear (relatively speaking). Johnson still shouts over the cacophony, now a pulsating post-punk, PiL-like attack. As soon as the band ramped up the sound they choose to hold back once again, letting the song fade off and end.

Buck Up Guys....[/caption]
Monday morning I spotted a lovely young woman riding down Market Street, listening to her Boombotix Rex portable bluetooth speaker.
Awesome, except she was listening to Coldplay....
Buck Up! "Nobody said it was easy?" Yeah well ok.

On Friday, July 19th, BoomBotix invades Huckleberry Bicycles--that's us--to blast off their latest, greatest toy: the BoomBot Rex. Maverick's beer will be providing the suds, the great-haired mechanic will be providing the music, the SFBC is providing the bike valet, and we're stocking a bunch of Rex's for y'all to purchase.
A little something about these amazing little pieces of technology:
I can't believe how much I love this thing. I didn't really think that I would use a portable speaker so much, but ever since I got my REX, I've been crushing with it. On and off the bike, the REX sounds amazing. On my ride to work on Harrison Street, it's been all Amon Duul II, Harmonia, and Electric Sun. I mean, Uli von Roth's shredding on this song is cosmic.
The REX is not at all just for cyclists. Â Yes you can get a handlebar mount, yes messengers wear them on their shoulder straps, but I've found that going to shred city at the beach or listening to internet radio in your car (if you don't have a bluetooth stereo) are a couple of nice non-bike things to do with you Boombot. Â Obviously the list goes on and on in terms of what else you can do with these things and activities you can incorporate a little tunes into -- snowboarding, skateboarding, whatevs. Â It's hard to beat something that sounds like an old boombox but is the size of a can of tuna. Â Did I mention that they are water and mud resistant?
The functionality on the REX is superb. Â With the magic of bluetooth, not only do you not need wires, but you can use your REX as a speaker/microphone for you phone! Â So you can take a call while you are riding your bike without the need for a headset or risking your life by grabbing your phone.
Boombotix has also moved past their original alien-esque stylings for a sleeker, less goofy looking product that resonates with more people. Â Yes you can still get the original Boombot if you are into that, but the REX is a far superior piece of equipment. You can also mod the REX with customizable grill kits to add a little color to your REX.
For $130, the REX is a steal -- you can browse our BoomBots for sale here.
See you at the party!

It's July folks.
Time to blow some shit up in your backyard.
Time to get up at 5:30 in the morning to watch the Tour.
Time to buy a new bike.
And we have 'em at Huckleberry folks. Lots of 'em. And they GOTTA go.
You might look at our website and think, "Oh wow! They have Levi's Commuter Pants at Huckleberry. They have Bromptons. They have DZR Shoes. What a great selection of bags."
Well you'd be absolutely right for thinking that. But that's not all folks.
We have a great selection of bikes. And we have a few smoking deals to get you out on the road with a few bucks left in your pocket.
If you want to take a look at the complete list of Closeout bikes, click here.
If you'd rather finish another hilarious blog post, then keep reading. I've highlighted a few of our best deals on bikes below.
SuperSix Evo:
We had a big sale on SuperSix Evo's a few weeks ago, and we happen to have one of these bad boys left. Want to ride the Best Bike in the World? The bike Peter Sagan is riding? Yeah, that one, the SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod. Come on down to Huckleberry town and we'll get you kitted up. Right now we have a 56cm Supersix Evo Red Racing Edition for $5525! It's Black, with just a little touch of green for all you Hulkamaniacs out there. And it's GOTTA go!
Pinarello FP Quattro:
In case someone's Karma ran over your Dogma.
This bike has many of the same asymmetric features that make the Pinarello Dogma worthy of it's price tag. But the FP Quattro Frame costs half as much. We have the FP Quattro with Ultegra for just $3695. We also have access to a Pinarello Inventory and Closeout list, in case a Dogma, or some other Italian beauty suits your fancy. Bellissima!
[caption id="attachment_3279" align="alignleft" width="600"]
FP Quattro with Ultegra [/caption]
2012 Felt F4130:
Modern Features in a Classic Steel Frame. Was $3000, now $2250.
If you're looking for the ride quality of steel, but still want your bike to be pretty baddass, this could be the bike for you.
Everything on the Felt F4130 seems to shout "CLASSIC", but when you take a closer look at the Columbus CroMor tubeset, integrated headset, carbon fork, and BB30 bottom bracket shell, it all starts to look a lot more modern than you're dad's old Raleigh. Campagnolo Athena 11-speed controls and a painted-to match stem round things out nicely. Also, this bike has eyelets so you can run a light rack. Perfect for your next Brevet or credit card tour. Our loss is your gain. It's gotta GO!!
